This lagoon was baptized as “The Emerald of America” by the Chilean nobel poet, Gabriela Mistral.

The Town of Alegria is located at 1,240mts above sea level and its surrounded by Coffee Plantations; it was home to Salvadorian writer Alberto Masferrer (1868 – 1932). Along with Santiago de Maria, another coffee plantation town, both cities make a great half to full day tour to visit mountain lookouts and fertile plains full of images of tropical flowers and vegetation.

While in Alegria town you will visit Laguna de Alegria which is a gem size lake with sulphur waters because it is in a volcanic crater, its warm thermal waters have therapeutic effects on the body and skin. There are also many walking trails where you can view the exuberant vegetation and colorful birds.

This tour leaves at 9am to go through San Miguel town and up to Santiago de Maria (1.5 hours drive) and Alegria town, in Alegria town you will be able to taste some Salvadorian dishes while admiring the great views and nursery of diverse tropical vegetation.

On the way out you will check Alegria Lagoon and go back through the rear of Tecapa Volcano to Usulután and arrive back to the hotel around 3:00pm
